During this presentation we will understand how white dwarfs were discovered, what they are, their physical properties, how they evolve isolated and in binaries, and why they are important. Special emphasis will be placed on how the revolutionary data provided by the Gaia satellite has helped in answering these questions.

报告人简介： 

Alberto Rebassa obtained his PhD at the University of Warwick. After that he moved to Chile, University of Valparaiso for a 4 year postdoc. Then, he became a LAMOST fellow at the Kavli Institut for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University for 2.5 years. Finally, he moved to Politechnic University of Catalonia where he did a postdoc for 2 years and then he became assistant professor (Ramón y Cajal fellow) for 5 years. Since 2023 January he is associate professor. His research is within the field of stellar astrophysics, in particular in the study of white dwarfs.
