Abstract:
CK Vul (Nova Vul 1670) has not been observed since its outburst in
1670-1672. The remnants of the outburst had been found in 1982. The nature
of CK Vul remains unknown. Proposed hypotheses include a nova scenario,
very late thermal pulse and stellar merger. We studied the object using
imaging and spectroscopy of the nebula and the field stars. The imaging,
obtained between 1991 and 2010, spans 5.6% of the lifetime of the nebula.
Surprisingly, we discovered two stars located within 10 arcsec of the
expansion centre of the nebula that are characterized by pronounced long
term variations and one star with high proper motion. I will discuss the
nature of the object in terms of recent observations.
