报告摘要:

In the past decade, over two hundred gravitational-wave events have been detected, the majority originating from the mergers of binary black holes (BBHs). Understanding the origin of such systems is an essential part of gravitational-wave astronomy. The evolution of isolated binaries provides a natural way to form merging BBHs, with three primary channels identified: common envelope evolution (CEE), chemically homogeneous evolution (CHE), and stable mass transfer (SMT). This talk focuses on the CEE and SMT channels.
Part 1 (CEE): Theoretically abundant long-period Wolf-Rayet star/black hole + massive main-sequence star binaries are observationally rare. This discrepancy suggests that the role of the CEE channel may have been overestimated in past population synthesis calculations. We analyse this issue in the light of a new orbital evolution model, which is driven by mass ejection during the luminous blue variable stage, instead of classical mass transfer.
Part 2 (SMT): Conversely, recent studies indicate that the role of the SMT channel has been underestimated. We investigate this channel by constructing detailed binary evolution models continuously evolving from zero-age main sequence to BBH formation. We show that accretion-induced structural changes in the initial secondary star play a key role, naturally reproducing the observed mass-ratio peak (GWTC-4), which is not captured in other simulations.
