报告摘要:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) successfully completed the first phase of its survey operation last April, mapping the 3D positions of more than 47 million galaxies and quasars in the Universe up to z ~ 3.5. The unprecedented volume and depth of the DESI data offer a golden opportunity to explore several exciting topics in galaxy formation and cosmology. In particular, what kind of dark matter halos host the smallest DESI galaxies? What drives the cool gas surrounding the most massive DESI galaxies? How do galaxies chemically evolve within the cosmic web? In this talk, I will apply a novel combination of rigorous cosmological probes to the DESI data, aiming to provide quantitative insights into these key questions instead of mere storytelling. Finally, I will introduce the Jiaotong University Spectroscopic Telescope (JUST) and our ongoing effort to use the JUST cluster spectroscopic survey to test different theories of cosmic acceleration and the nature of gravity.
报告人简介:
Ying is currently a Professor of Astronomy at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and a tenured fellow at Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI). He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Astronomy from Nanjing University and PhD in Astronomy from the Ohio State University (OSU). Before joining SJTU in 2017, he was a postdoc researcher at the McWilliams Center for Cosmology of the Carnegie Mellon University (2013-2016) and a long-term fellow at the Center for Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics of OSU (2016-2017). Ying’s main research interest is in the area of Cosmology and Galaxy Formation, with a particular focus on the intersection between galaxy surveys and theoretical Astrophysics. Since 2008, he has published 80+ papers with 8000+ citations, and has been strongly involved in flagship surveys like the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), Subaru Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS), and China Space Station Telescope (CSST). Since joining TDLI in 2024, Ying has been leading the cosmology program of the Jiaotong University Spectroscopic Telescope (JUST), which is expected to see first light in 2027.
